I think one of their great strengths is connection. The characters are forced to look past the superficial to see people more for who they are and to connect over some obstacle. As a culture and a church, we've become much better at building walls of rules, expectations and ideologies instead of using the magic of Love to see and *accept* people just as they are, where they are. A wound must be acknowledged to be treated — gently, with a soft touch and soothing balm, even if the disinfectant stings by nature.
