There’s a short three-word phrase I invite you to examine in your inner dialogue. That phrase is…
“I have to…”
I have to wait for them to give me the go-ahead.
I have to get better at writing to share my work.
I have to get up at 5 am.
I have to let the client have her way.
I have to be strong.
I have to be happy.
I have to get back at him.
I have to be really nice to my wife.*
(*This one is probably true.)
You get the point.
Do you have to?
Or is your ‘have to’ serving as a really useful scapegoat?
Tough questions are often the best ones.
