We’re horrible authors

If you and I were to write our life stories, they’d be THE lamest stories ever.

I can’t tell you what your story would look like, but I bet I can guess what it WOULDN’T include (because mine wouldn’t either)…

There’d be no…

Heartache
Sickness
Betrayal
Awkwardness
Financial lack
Anger
Fear
Apathy
Grief
Doubt
Uncertainty
Suffering

You know this as much as I do: A story without these elements is… Lame. Straight up.

Now… I’m not saying that we need to go create more situations with these elements in our lives. Life/God does a fine job of providing us with an ample amount of them without our help.

I’m also not downplaying any real pain and suffering that you or anyone you know might be experiencing right now. This is merely a metaphor to help point to a greater truth…

I’m of the belief that we humans are designed around relationship. And God, who’s apparently a far better author than us, knows that the most palpable way we change each other is through the stories our lives tell.

And so every one of us finds a little (or a lotta) drama, suspense, conflict, tragedy, comedy, etc. weaved into our lives. These elements are what make the human experience an experience.

GOD ADDS THE UNEXPECTED TO OUR LIVES SO THAT OUR STORY BECOMES MORE POWERFUL, PROFOUND AND TRANSFORMATIVE TO BOTH OURSELVES AND OTHERS.

If you’ve set out to do good and feel that you’re constantly getting booted around by life, please don’t let that stop you. Know that this particular dragon you’re facing is just part of your story. And no one wants to sit through a story where the hero packs it up and goes home… The end.

Step up and do more good.
Slay that damn dragon.
Lean into that drama.
Give in the face of your pain and suffering.
Plow through it.

What story are you telling with your life?
We want to root for you.
We want to see ourselves in your shoes.
We want to know that we can overcome.
Don’t make us put the book down.
It’s getting too good for that.
